The respected journalist Beth Day Romulo had featured on her column on Panorama entitled “Fear of falling” the being “not that elderly friendly of Manila and Makati” dated May 30, 2010.
As the start of it goes “I’m sorry to report that Manila and Makati are not elder – friendly cities. Take a look at the shopping malls, public buildings, hotel entrances, etc.” She stressed out the Greenbelt entrance. “One outspoken elderly friend of mine complained so vociferously about a Greenbelt entrance, that a ramp and railing were added to the pedestrian walkway. Maybe we do have to be noisy to get response” she stated.
It’s sad to say that elite malls like this seemed to forget the safety of people who’s patronizing them. Yes, we have to be noisy for complains like this. We should have an ear for our elderly.
Fear of falling.
May 31, 2010Keep on Smiling – by Isagani Casimiro
May 31, 2010OF PROBLEMS rich and poor people have them. To cry for them is bad for the health. Problems have beautiful lessons to teach us. And when we find them, kiss them goodbye and smile.
A smile opens doors of opportunities for growth and progress. It also helps the body stay young, strong and healthy – and the face beautiful.
We jog, or swim, or bike. It’s good exercise for the body. But le us not forget to exercise our face, too. How? By always smiling!
When we smile, the soft muscles and tissues of the face are stretched to the temples and ears. When we smile, people are drawn to us. Frowns and grimaces push them away.
A smile also changes our mood when we feel down. Think of anything, or anybody, or circumstance which made you smile in the past. It could be a beautiful flower you had seen for the first time in your life, or the face of Rene Requiestas, or when you forgot to zip your crotch.
A smiling face brightens up a room, changes the mood of others, and makes things happier. Stress can easily show in an unsmiling face. A smile helps to prevent us from looking tired and worn down.
A smile helps the immune system to work better. When a person smiles, his immune function improves. Thus it prevents flu and colds. Smile also lowers the person’s blood pressure.
A smiling face also releases endorphins, natural pain killers, and serotonin. Together they make a person feel good. Therefore, a smile is a natural drug.
Smiling lifts the face and makes the person look younger. The muscles and tissues are the ones performing them. If this is so, it’s time to say adieu to facelift. Just keep smiling your way through the day.
Between beauty and smile, men prefer a lady who always sports eyes that twinkle and lips that stretch to the ears. Men’s instincts are sharper than women’s when it comes to smiles. Thus, in villages where ladies seldom smile, or do not smile at all, are the ones who remain single. No man would like a wife-to-be whose face is like a Viernes Santo all year round.
People who are always smiling appear more confident. They appear more confident. They are more likely to be candidates for promotion. In the banking and airline industries, they are placed at the counter.
Job applicants should be aware of the effects of an unsmiling face before the HR manager for interview. It creates a negative impression on them. Employers want their future employees to display a happy face. It’s good for business.
A salesman cannot sell a product no matter how important an insurance policy or a car to a client without a smile. Aside from wholesome get up and gift of selling, a salesman should also possess a contagious smile. A smile softens the wallet of the customer.
A smile sends a message that “Life is good.” But the smile should be divine. We shouldn’t smile at the defect or misfortune of other people. “Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses,” wrote King Solomon (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
2010 Automated election process and PCOS machines.
May 25, 2010In the technical industry, I don’t think, that was a successful automated election. As we had monitored, the main bug is from CF cards. Some cards from provinces did not configure properly, and also with the signals of the telecom sites, we all know in provinces signals are down, because telecom companies, doesn’t have enough satellites to different parts of the country. It has been hard for them to transmit election returns in Visayas and Mindanao. It’s been a blow. Earlier, they should have over all dry run. and look for possible ways for problems that will occur, might as well make sure that atleast three sim cards were distributed in each SOP. Or they just have been tested the communications two – way before casting of votes. You have to wait for it until it is over to judge it technically. Remember planning, analyzing, designing, TESTING, implementation and maintenance. That’s the standard procedure in any IT project. How come, days had passed and election returns had not been transmitted yet? That’s the very crucial and very important part in any election because people can had speculations on their minds as to why could it happen. How couldn’t they predict that before? Successful end users is equals to successful project. So for me, it’s a thumbs down.

March 14, 2010Is is true that Charice Pempengco is now studying at the University of Hampshire in England? That’s via online. Good to know, I’m one of the fan. Love the voice within the tiny body.
Manny Pacquiao wins again.
March 14, 2010Filipino Boxing Champ, Manny Pacquiao wins over Joshua Clottey from Ghana, Africa. Wonder why Clottey never throw that much punch over Manny.
Alex Lambert.
March 9, 2010Alex Lambert is so cute. But he’s a little bit shy. Though I love his voice, just like the judges said, he had that voice and he doesn’t know what to do with it.
The Most Powerful President
March 7, 2010I had read an article of Imee Marcos, the first daughter during Marcos’ Presidency.
I felt the sincerity and the sentiments when she told Noynoy Aquino (son of the late
President Cory Aquino and Sen. Ninoy Aquino) to move on. He even told that he was scared if Noynoy wins the presidency because the latter already had a statement that he definitely won’t let Ferdinand Marcos, her father be buried on “Libingan ng mga bayani” which is the cemetery of national heroes. She even said that Noynoy had still bitterness on what happened a long time ago. WAKE UP IMEE, you’re talking about both your own fathers. This is just not any friend or acquaintance. HE LOST HIS FATHER ON A VERY TRAUMATIC WAY. What would you do if you were in reverse situation.
I know Imee was also hurt because the people can’t seem to forget the Marcos regime.
I think they had just forgive but you can’t force the public to forget what happened.
Thousands were dead and maybe each one of our relatives had that wound of experience
to share on that Martial Law.
Imee was quiet all the time about the issue of her father, I understand she’s emotionally impaired on these issues and I admire her silence, even when she and her brother Bongbong sincerely went to Cory’s wake. They showed that they are also sobbing.
I felt it genuine and maybe this is the first time that she did write it on her column, she is standing now as a daughter. But please you understand that your father is not a hero. He happened to be the most powerful president in his times but he had executed it in a wrong way.
President Cory is a hero proclaimed by the people but the family chose to bury the body
on Manila Memorial together with the great Ninoy. (They remained calm, silent and respectful in spite of what ugly things that happened to their lives because I think they inherit their parents’ way and they did not want to move their parents’ body. Whose first family you think you’ll ever see those gestures?). So who is your father to proclaim? He may did a good job on putting the country on the map during his presidency by his elite friends all over the world. But I think he did nothing to be a hero.
The country is not blaming younger Marcos’s for what the parents did. It’s not the fault of the siblings and besides no one will ever tell them to bend their knees and apologize.
Filipinos are not like that. You are all living freely now. On the other hand, I think the country had already forgiven Marcos’s but they won’t FORGET.
“‘A dangerous life’, until now?”
March 7, 2010After watching the movie that was made long ago, I think I already knew who’s to vote.Being born on August 22, 1986, in the midst of EDSA revolution, I got used of holidaysjust days after my birthday or even on that same day in the spirit of EDSA revolution.
I had read articles about that because i love reading just anything, anything from books,to magazines, to internet blogs, to labels or any sort that has information of any kind.
I know that Cory Aquino is the first lady president, that she led the EDSA revolution because her husband senator Ninoy was shot to death and to end the Marcos regime.
But I don’t know about the Mendiola Massacre, that it was one of the part that also leads to the revenge of people.
I’m familiar with those happenings through news but it’s different watching the sequence and every phase of it. The deliberations of characters are so strong that my hairs are standing on what Marcoses did.
But more than anything else, I pity those innocent and ordinary people who were killed and tortured.
One instance is the character of Dina Bonnevie who played an activist together with her younger brother (who was shot to death in Mendiola). Her dad is an editor of newspaper. He was caught and tortured, if not for her American reporter boyfriend O’neil who ask his fellow Americans to let her go after days, her life won’t be saved.
I hope TV stations will air that movie over and over again most importantly before election or even in celebrations of EDSA REVOLUTION. That is to remind citizens what those people behind that movie did. MANY OF THE CHARACTERS ON THAT MOVIE ARE STILL IN THE POSITION TODAY. Where many of us were just first time voters or others has just forgotten the spirit of that revolution. I am not trying to persuade any reader for whom to vote, this is just an opinion after watching the history. Just please vote wisely, and the country is sick and tired of corrupt politicians so please spare this beautiful race.
Happiest Asians
March 7, 2010Filipinos are among the happiest Asians in the 95 countries listed in the World
Happiest Index. The Philippines was listed No. 12 while Japan was no. 19.
Bangladesh ranked no. 21 with China and India on the spots of no. 29 and no. 36 respectively.
In the first ever “world map of happiness” produced by Adrian White, an analytic social
psychologist at the University of Leicester’s School of Psychology, three Asian
countries made it to the first top 20, Britain, No.8, Brunei, No. 9, and Malaysia No. 17
At least if not one of the richest, at any rate one of the happiest.
