The respected journalist Beth Day Romulo had featured on her column on Panorama entitled “Fear of falling” the being “not that elderly friendly of Manila and Makati” dated May 30, 2010.
As the start of it goes “I’m sorry to report that Manila and Makati are not elder – friendly cities. Take a look at the shopping malls, public buildings, hotel entrances, etc.” She stressed out the Greenbelt entrance. “One outspoken elderly friend of mine complained so vociferously about a Greenbelt entrance, that a ramp and railing were added to the pedestrian walkway. Maybe we do have to be noisy to get response” she stated.
It’s sad to say that elite malls like this seemed to forget the safety of people who’s patronizing them. Yes, we have to be noisy for complains like this. We should have an ear for our elderly.
Fear of falling.
